Mokattam Corniche to become global tourist destination

The Egyptian government is moving ahead with the development of Mokattam area, southern Cairo and is planning to turn it into a global tourist destination.
The LE32 million development scheme was undertaken after el-Nasr Housing and Development Company signed a partnership contract with Scope International for Engineering and Architecture with a view to reconstructing the Mokattam Corniche on the high, central plateau.
The project, which is expected to generate LE61 billion in revenues will include a walkway, park, cycle track, cafes and restaurants, a bazaar, shopping malls, a glass-floored bridge and telescope area for those who love astronomy.
The project will take five years, el-Nasr Housing and Development CEO Mohamed Abdul Maqsoud said.
“This is a landmark project for the Mokattam area and is part of government plans to promote the partnership between the private and public sectors, former minister of public business sector Hisham Tawfiq said.
Developing the Corniche is also an opportunity for investment, said former Alexandria governor Reda Farahat, adding that the Corniche will be a tourist destination overlooking the Citadel of Salahuddin and Islamic Cairo.
On a clear day, you will be able to see the Giza Pyramids, the Cairo Tower and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation.
Mokattam is a perfect place away from the noise of the capital.
