Minister reviews Awareness Programme issues 1 - Egyptian Gazette

During her visit to Aswan Governorate, Minister of Social Solidarity  Nevine el-Qabbag held on Sunday a community dialogue in the village of Gharb Sohail regarding the issues of the Awareness Programme for Community Development. The event was attended by Major General Ashraf Attia, Governor of Aswan, Mr Alessandro Fracassetti, representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and representatives of several local NGOs in Aswan and social pioneers.

The meeting included a review of the awareness campaigns provided through the Awareness Programme for Community Development and success stories of social pioneers, highlighting their role in correcting misconceptions and spreading positive awareness among citizens.

The event  featured a theatrical  performance  addressing key societal issues.

Minister Qabbag voiced  her happiness for being in the beautiful village of Gharb Sohail, one of the wonderful districts of Aswan Governorate with a rich historical and cultural heritage spanning through the ages.

She noted that the Ministry of Social Solidarity launched the “Awareness” Programme for Community Development, funded by the European Union and thr United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), around four years ago as one of the key mechanisms affecting social protection programmes.

She added that Gharb Sohail Village in Aswan has influenced many social issues by adopting a methodology of educating youth and girls, preventing harmful traditional practices, and providing a model of civilization, cleanliness, and heritage preservation. Therefore, tourists from inside and outside Egypt come to enjoy this culture.

 

The Minister of Social Solidarity praised the artistic tools she witnessed in expressing social awareness issues through the presentation of success stories of social pioneers and village artists in offering artistic performances that reflect their vision of addressing social and cultural issues of concern to society, in order to achieve the desired development outcomes.

She explained that over the past few years, the ministry has implemented several awareness campaigns addressing social protection issues, as well as issues concerning girls, women, and children, including family planning, economic empowerment, combating violence against women and children, especially combating female genital mutilation and child marriage, the importance of education and literacy, combating child labor and illegal migration, positive family upbringing, the importance of early detection of disabilities and the rights of persons with disabilities, combating smoking and addiction, cleanliness and environmental protection. These campaigns involved all active parties, including large NGOs from all over the country, social pioneers, and workers in the departments and directorates of social solidarity, in cooperation with partners from international organizations, especially the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
