Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) Ali El-Ghamrawy received a Mexican delegation led by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Mexican Embassy in Cairo Hector Ortega Nieto.

The meeting was also attended by Egyptian-Mexican businessman Dr Mahmoud Hamdy and the CEO of Mexican pharmaceutical company ‘Berna’ Francisco Javier.

The talks focused on investment and opportunities for the expansion of the Mexican company in Egypt. They also explored potential partnerships between Berna and Egyptian pharmaceutical companies.

El-Ghamrawy highlighted EDA’s efforts to support investment in the pharmaceutical sector, noting that the authority is keen to provide a supportive and attractive regulatory environment.

He also added that Egypt’s pharmaceutical market offers promising opportunities for growth.

“Egypt has strong production capabilities and extensive industry expertise. These advantages support efforts to localise pharmaceutical manufacturing and increase domestic production,” El-Ghamrawy said.

Berna CEO presented the company’s future plans for investment and expansion in Egypt. He also expressed interest in working with local pharmaceutical firms. Berna also seeks to benefit from Egypt’s expertise and production capabilities.

The two sides discussed potential partnerships in manufacturing and pharmaceutical investment.

They also explored technology transfer and the exchange of expertise. Egypt’s potential as a gateway to regional and African markets was also highlighted.

The meeting covered regulatory procedures for entering the Egyptian market. These included the registration and marketing of pharmaceutical products, as well as relevant technical requirements.

Both sides agreed on the importance of turning proposed areas of cooperation into practical steps.

The meeting is part of the EDA’s efforts to attract international investment and expand cooperation with global pharmaceutical companies. It also supports Egypt’s efforts to strengthen local manufacturing, transfer technology and enhance the competitiveness of its pharmaceutical industry.
