The Egyptian Armed Forces have announced the appointment of Colonel Ahmed Etman Aly as the new Official Military Spokesperson, bringing to the position more than two decades of operational, command and international military experience.
A graduate of the 99th Batch of the Egyptian Military Academy in 2005, Colonel Etman serves in the Infantry branch and has held a wide range of command, operational and instructional appointments throughout his military career. He also participated in counterterrorism operations in North Sinai.
Colonel Etman holds a Bachelor of Military Sciences from the Egyptian Military Academy and a Master of Military Sciences from the Command and General Staff College. He also earned a Master of Operational Studies and a Command and General Staff College Diploma in the United States, in addition to completing specialised military courses in airborne operations, commando instruction, combat training, infantry leadership and United Nations military observation.
His international experience includes service as a Liaison Officer and United Nations Military Observer with the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in Sudan. He has also taken part in joint military exercises and overseas missions in Italy, the United States, Spain, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain.
Alongside his military education, Colonel Etman has pursued advanced civilian studies, including pre-PhD programmes in International Relations at Cairo University and Business Administration at Helwan University. He also holds diplomas in Human Resources Management and Middle East Regional Studies.
Throughout his career, Colonel Etman has received numerous decorations, including the Military Medal of Duty, Second Class, awarded three times, the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, four United Nations Peacekeeping Service Medals for his service in Darfur, and several commemorative medals marking key national and military milestones. He was also awarded a Ceremonial Sword by the Republic of Italy in recognition of his distinguished military service.
