The Cabinet Media Centre has denied reports claiming that Egypt incurred $50 million in costs to repair the Energos Winter regasification vessel following an incident at Damietta Port.
In a statement issued through its official social media platforms, the centre said that, following consultation with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, it had been confirmed that the reports alleging Egypt had paid $50 million towards the vessel’s repairs were fabricated, misleading and entirely inaccurate.
The ministry further clarified that no statements containing such information had been issued by officials of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS). It stressed that remarks attributed to an EGAS official regarding Egypt’s alleged payment for the repairs were wholly baseless.
The ministry warned that the dissemination of such misinformation, particularly when falsely attributed to EGAS officials, could create confusion by circulating inaccurate information.
It also affirmed its right to pursue legal action against any individual who publishes or republishes the allegations or falsely attributes statements to EGAS officials.
The centre called on citizens and the public to exercise caution and not be influenced by rumours or unverified information.
It stressed the importance of checking facts and relying on official sources before sharing reports, in order to prevent the circulation of inaccurate information and avoid causing public confusion.
