Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Tuesday witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population and Sweden’s Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, aimed at strengthening bilateral co-operation in medical and healthcare fields.

The MoU was co-signed by Minister of Health and Population Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Swedish Minister of Health Elisabeth Lann, in the presence of Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Sweden’s Ambassador to Cairo.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Madbouli said the agreement aligns with Egypt’s ongoing efforts to expand international co-operation in the medical sector and benefit from leading global expertise, supporting the government’s drive to enhance healthcare services and improve service quality nationwide.

The memo promotes collaboration across several priority areas, including the development of “One Health” strategies to support public health, the exchange of expertise in operating public health control centres, and exploring the application of modern technologies in the healthcare sector.

Commenting on the signing, Minister Abdel Ghaffar described the MoU as a major step toward deepening health co-operation between Egypt and Sweden, reflecting Cairo’s commitment to building global partnerships in healthcare and leveraging advanced expertise to strengthen healthcare services.

He added that collaboration with Sweden opens new opportunities for knowledge exchange in public health, scientific research, and the application of modern medical technologies, in line with Egypt’s digital transformation agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals, and Egypt Vision 2030.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Madbouli presided over a high-level meeting to review the latest developments in the digitalisation of the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS).

During the meeting, he stressed the importance of regular monitoring of the system’s implementation and maintaining continuous coordination among all relevant sectors to ensure both financial and technical sustainability. He also highlighted the need to strictly adhere to the established timelines for each phase of digitalisation, ensuring the achievement of national objectives for comprehensive healthcare delivery.
