Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi hailed the development of bilateral relations between Egypt and France in all fields, stressing that Egypt is looking forward to enhancing political coordination and co-operation with France in the coming period. The president also expressed aspiration to exchange views with President Emmanuel Macron on various regional and international issues of common interest, especially with regard to issues of sustainable development and support for peace and security in the entire region, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement on Saturday.
President Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, on the sidelines of the Baghdad Conference for Co-operation and Partnership.
During the meeting, President Sisi stressed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with France and maximise the benefit from the opportunities available in the two friendly countries, especially in sectors such transport, manufacture of trains and electric cars and renewable energy.
President Sisi said Egypt was looking forward to benefiting from the French expertise in the national project to develop Egyptian rural areas within the framework of the ‘Decent Life’ initiative as well as encouraging French companies to take advantage of available investment opportunities, transfer expertise and technology, and localise industry in Egypt, especially in major national projects, according to the spokesman.
For his part, the French president expressed his country’s appreciation to Egypt, praising in this context the close ties between Cairo and Paris.
Macron hailed the unprecedented momentum in relations between the two countries in various fields, especially at the level of economic and commercial relations.
The French president also affirmed his country’s keenness to intensify coordination and consultation with Egypt as it is one of the most important partners in the region.
Macron highlighted Egypt’s role in laying the foundations for stability in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and the African continent at large, as well as its efforts in combatting terrorism, extremist ideology and illegal immigration, Spokesman Radi said.
The two leaders discussed ways to develop bilateral relations, especially with regard to strengthening France’s involvement in various fields of paramount importance to Egypt’s development process.
Presidents Sisi and Macron agreed on the necessity of working together to double the volume of French investments in Egypt and push the wheel of economic co-operation between the two countries, Radi concluded.
