Health Minister Hala Zayed said contracts were inked to secure 60.5 million doses of vaccines; AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharm, Sputnik, Johnson and Pfizer.

During a cabinet meeting on Wednesday under Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, she reviewed the latest developments concerning the coronavirus at local and international levels as well as efforts to vaccinate people.
The minister also tackled the status of local manufacturing of Sinovac by the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA).
She also reviewed negotiations to achieve cooperation between the Chinese Sinopharm company and VACSERA during 2022.
She noted that it was approved to increase the supply of raw materials by 2023 to produce the required amount of about 250 million doses.
She added that her ministry will start serious negotiations to start twinship measures between Sinovac and VACSERA to produce additional vaccines.
She noted that about 23,376,990 doses were administered.
She added that efforts are under way to vaccinate 1.2 million registered people within a week.
She referred to a French study – conducted on 22.6 million people over 50 years old – accentuating that vaccination reduces death rates and need to go to hospital by 90 percent.
The study said vaccines, whatever their kind is, decreased dangerous symptoms and death rates.
She noted that Egypt has trained about 100,000 medical teams since January 2021 through the World Health Organization (WHO) educational platform.
She referred to the UK’s recent decision to certify coronavirus vaccination cards of passengers from Egypt to the UK.
For his part, the premier said international studies on the vaccination’s impact on alleviating the symptoms of coronavirus and death rates enhance continued calls on citizens to get vaccinated.
He underlined the importance of vaccinating the remaining registered 1.2 million people as soon as possible.
He hailed the efforts exerted by the Health Ministry to vaccinate people.
