The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) opened its doors to the public today for the very first time. The response was nothing short of remarkable, with nearly 18,000 visitors, both Egyptian and international, flocking to experience the museum’s fascinating collection and striking architecture.

Media outlets from around the world gathered alongside local journalists to document the joyful scenes, as families and visitors of all backgrounds arrived to explore Egypt’s newest cultural treasure.

Many guests expressed their admiration for the museum’s thoughtful design, spacious galleries, and especially the spectacular halls showcasing the legacy of the “Golden King.”

The museum offers more than just historical artifacts, visitors enjoyed a full experience, complete with a variety of cultural, entertainment, and educational amenities.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, described the day as a historic milestone for Egypt and the world.

He emphasised that the GEM is not only a place showcasing ancient masterpieces, but also a living embodiment of Egypt’s enduring cultural brilliance.

Minister Fathy celebrated the impressive turnout as evidence of ongoing international interest in Egypt’s story, reaffirming the country’s leading role on the global tourism map.

Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the GEM, highlighted ongoing efforts to offer high-quality services and a wide range of cultural and educational programmes, with the goal of making the museum a must-see destination for guests from every corner of the world.
