Egyptian Minister of Environment Yassmin Fouad attended Saturday the launch ceremony of a first-of-its-kind campaign in the Middle East to protect marine environment in the Red Sea.
Dubbed, “Enjoy and protect the sea,” the campaign seeks to protect and conserve marine ecosystems not only at the national level, but also at the global level.
It is a wake-up call to save and protect marine life, which is in grave danger.
Organized by the environment ministry in cooperation with the ministry of tourism and antiquities, the ceremony took place at the Environmental Cultural and Educational Center (Cairo House) in Old Cairo in celebration of World Environment Day, which falls on June 5.
Fouad said that 2021 will be decisive in fulfilling state environmental obligations to conserve biodiversity, in light of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030, a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, for the benefit of people and nature.
Tourism Minister Khaled Al-Anani and UNDP Resident Representative in Egypt Randa Aboul-Hosn attended the ceremony, along with a host of senior officials from both ministries.
World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.
