The medical team of Karnak International Hospital, which affiliated with the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH), has successfully performed the first cochlear implant surgery under the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance system, said the GAH.
In a statement on Wednesday, the GAH said that a child aged 6 underwent the first cochlear implant surgery at Karnak International Hospital, after conducting the necessary tests.
The GAH, meanwhile, affirmed that it will continue to provide a free cochlear implant for deaf children, as part of efforts to provide medical services to the beneficiaries of the comprehensive health insurance system.
Dozens of cases will also undergo this surgery, added the statement.
Cochlear implantation is a surgery performed to restore hearing in people with severe hearing loss, particularly after hearing aids prove ineffective. Cochlear implants can improve patients’ communication and quality of life.
