AMMAN — Jordanian media gave extensive coverage to Egypt’s historic qualification for the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the Pharaohs’ penalty shootout victory over Australia as a landmark achievement and celebrating what it called a proud moment for Arab football.
Leading Jordanian news outlets, including the state-run Petra news agency and Jordan Television, highlighted Egypt’s first-ever progression to the knockout stage, while broadcasters Roya TV and Al Mamlaka devoted special coverage to the victory, public reaction and congratulatory messages from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Several outlets also focused on Egypt coach Hossam Hassan waving the Palestinian flag after the match in Dallas, portraying the gesture as a symbolic expression of solidarity that drew widespread attention across traditional and social media.
Celebrations extended beyond newsrooms, with members of the Egyptian community gathering in Amman, Aqaba, and Irbid to mark the victory alongside Jordanians.
Jordanian newspapers also lauded this achievement, describing Egypt’s qualification as a historic milestone, while commentators said the achievement represented a shared source of pride for the Arab world and underscored the strong bonds between the Egyptian and Jordanian peoples.
