Egypt’s Minister of Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel Ati, held a meeting with a host of his ministry’s officials on Sunday to follow up on the position of a number of irrigation and water projects across Egypt.

The minister asked the ministry officials to start preparations for the fifth edition of the Cairo Water Week and build on the successes of the fourth edition of the conference which had just wrapped up in Cairo.

He called for strict abidance by Covid-19 preventive measures at the different offices of his ministry.

Minister Abdel Ati underscored the importance of raising the alert level inside his ministry in preparation for the rainy season and expected torrential rains.

He asked the officials to intensify supervision over protection facilities along the Nile River to ensure that they are ready to deal with any emergencies in the coming period.

“Violations against the river must also be dealt with and removed immediately,” the minister said during the meeting.

Minister Abdel Ati reviewed reports about the efforts the different departments of his ministry make to remove violations against the river.

All concerned agencies and officials, he said, have to be fully ready to deal with these violations in coordination with other state agencies.

The minister also reviewed reports about progress on the national project for lining irrigation canals across Egypt.

He called for speeding up the implementation of the project to maximize returns from it.
