BAGHDAD – Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid on Sunday underlined the important role played by Baghdad and Cairo in addressing regional challenges and their ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and stability in the Middle East.

He reiterated Iraq’s firm support for the Palestinian people in their struggle to secure their legitimate rights and establish an independent state.

According to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency’s Media Office, the remarks came during Rashid’s meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad with Egyptian Ambassador in Baghdad Ahmed Samir, who delivered a letter from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inviting him to attend the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

Rashid stressed the urgent need to end the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

He also expressed his appreciation for President Sisi’s kind invitation, extending his greetings to the Egyptian leader along with his best wishes for Egypt’s continued progress and prosperity.

The Iraqi president emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing avenues of cooperation across various sectors to serve the common interests of both countries.

For his part, Samir reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to bolstering bilateral relations, expanding cooperation and investment, creating job opportunities, and fostering economic integration to promote sustainable development for the benefit of the Egyptian and Iraqi peoples.
