Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati welcomed on Monday the deal reached between the United States and Iran to end the conflict, voicing hope that it would mark a genuine turning point towards restoring security and stability across the Middle East.

He also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continuing its diplomatic efforts to support de-escalation and promote peaceful solutions to regional crises.

Abdel-Aati’s remarks were made during a phone call he had with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

The talks also addressed the latest regional developments, including the provisions of the agreement that brought an end to the conflict between the United States and Iran, as well as efforts aimed at ending hostilities across other regional fronts, including Lebanon, in a manner that respects the country’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

During the call, Abdel-Aati further emphasised Egypt’s full support for Lebanon and its solidarity with the Lebanese people amid the current challenges facing the country.

He stressed the importance of a complete Israeli withdrawal from all Lebanese territory and underscored the need to strengthen Lebanese state institutions, reinforce national sovereignty and ensure that the Lebanese state maintains the exclusive authority over the use of force within its territory.

For his part, Araqchi voiced appreciation to Egypt and its leadership for the intensive diplomatic efforts the country undertook over recent months through high-level contacts, with the aim of narrowing differences during negotiations, overcoming obstacles and encouraging the parties to reach an agreement that would bring an end to the conflict.

The Iranian Foreign Minister highlighted his country’s confidence in Egypt’s constructive role and expressed hope that Cairo would continue supporting the implementation and sustainability of the agreement, paving the way for a comprehensive and lasting settlement between the parties.
