The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Mohamed Farid, has stressed the importance of strengthening Egyptian-Qatari economic relations and expanding joint investment, calling for the activation of the Egyptian-Qatari Business Council and broader co-operation encompassing medium-sized enterprises alongside major investment groups.
Speaking during a meeting with the Qatari Businessmen Association in Doha, on the sidelines of his participation in the World Investment Forum organised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Minister Farid highlighted Egypt’s potential as a regional hub for manufacturing, storage, distribution and re-export, supported by its strategic location, advanced infrastructure and extensive network of trade agreements.
The meeting, held at the association’s headquarters, brought together Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani and a number of association members and leading Qatari investors to explore opportunities to expand Qatari investments in Egypt and strengthen bilateral trade and investment co-operation, building on progress in bilateral relations and the outcomes of the Joint Supreme Committee meetings.
During the meeting, Minister Farid outlined the government’s efforts to improve the investment climate through streamlined licensing procedures, digital transformation of investment services, legislative and regulatory reforms, and the facilitation of real estate investment procedures.
He also emphasised the importance of expanding productive and service-sector investments across Egypt’s governorates to promote development, create jobs, increase exports and deepen international economic partnerships.
The discussions covered opportunities in tourism, hotels, real estate development, industry, financial services and technology, alongside potential collaboration with Egyptian companies in artificial intelligence, education and healthcare.
In this respect, the minister encouraged Qatari businesses to pursue industrial and logistics projects serving the domestic market and boosting exports.
For their part, members of the Qatari Businessmen Association outlined their existing investments in Egypt, welcomed efforts to enhance the investment environment, and expressed interest in expanding their activities.
They also announced plans to arrange a delegation visit to Cairo in the coming period to explore further opportunities for co-operation and joint investment.
