CAIRO- Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir said the state has implemented several measures and initiatives with the aim of supporting national industries at the current phase, citing the availability of lots of lands for industrial purposes as well as easing the permits for launching industrial activities to lure in more investors.

The minister’s remarks were made during a series of meetings with top officials in a number of major multinational companies which have investments in the Egyptian market especially in the fields of communication and information technology, vehicles and electronic marketing.

During the meeting, Samir reviewed the state’s efforts to lure in investments to the industrial sector and enhance partnership with the private sector with the objective to increase local components in the local industry and develop the industrial supply chains.

He also asserted that the ministry was keen on beefing up co-operation with major international companies to benefit from their expertise in the advanced industrial fields, localise technological industries and bolster eco-friendly industries in Egypt.

Samir started the meetings with CEO of Huawei Egypt Jim Liu and reviewed with him current projects for the company in Egypt and means of expanding its activities in regional markets especially the African ones.

They also discussed some future activities in the fields of artificial intelligence, cloud computing and green energy.

Samir also conferred with a delegation of General Motors headed by Managing Director of GM Egypt and North Africa Sharon Nishi who reviewed the company’s future vision for localising the e-vehicles industry in Egypt.

The minister also conferred with Deputy Director General of OPPO Egypt whose factory in the 10th of Ramadan City will start production as early next year. The factory was set up on an area of 15,000 feddans with an expected production capacity of 4 million mobiles phones per year and a local component of 40 per cent.

Samir also held a similar meeting with Director General of Amazon Egypt Omar Sahi and they discussed potentials for the company’s marketing for Egyptian products at the international markets.
