Communications Minister Raafat Hindi met members of the House of Representatives’ Communications Committee, chaired by MP Ahmed Badawy, to discuss recent regulatory measures on mobile line registration. The meeting was attended by NTRA CEO Mohamed Shamroukh.

Discussions covered complaints about lines registered without users’ knowledge, and the NTRA’s immediate actions, including stricter rules for line sales and activation, biometric verification, and legal referrals of violations. Hindi stressed that protecting users’ rights is a top priority, adding that no company will be allowed to breach registration rules.

He highlighted the sector’s rapid growth in recent years, noting that this progress must go hand in hand with safeguarding citizens’ data and ensuring accurate line registration. Hindi underlined the importance of continuous coordination between government and parliament to strengthen regulatory frameworks and support digital trust.

Shamroukh outlined the unified digital identity project, a strategic initiative enabling secure electronic signatures and remote verification, built on advanced infrastructure and biometric matching with official records. He confirmed that strict penalties are applied for licensing breaches, while cases with criminal suspicion are referred to the Public Prosecution.

The committee praised the NTRA’s swift action, stressing that the measures enhance discipline in the telecom market and protect citizens. Chairman Badawy commended the ministry’s responsiveness and emphasised the importance of legislative‑executive cooperation to serve the public interest.
