The high-level segment of of COP 27/CMP 17/CMA 4 started Tuesday, as part of the proceedings of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference, COP27, and with the participation of the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
During the session, President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Kőrösi said that the COP27 represents a perfect opportunity to bridge a gap between pledges and implementation on the ground through vowing to reduce emissions, address adaptation to tackle loss and damage, in addition to pledges to increase climate finance.
Kőrösi, meanwhile, voiced hope that the all the ideas and initiatives will be related to the scientific evidences to reduce carbon emissions and confront climate change.
It is necessary to change the current policies and sustainable development in general, he added.
He further emphasized the importance of abiding all parties by their pledges.
Kőrösi also underlined the importance of the initiative, which is related to water and food for sustainable development that was put forward during the conference’s proceedings.
The European Union will increase its targets for reducing carbon emissions by 2030, Frans Timmermans, the European Commission’s climate chief, told the COP27 summit.
Over the past two weeks, an agreement was reached to forge several legislations and reduce carbon emissions and cars in order to cut ultimately the CO2 Emissions, he added.
Timmermans denied the EU was in a “dash for gas” after Russia’s operation of Ukraine caused an energy crisis that threatens to drag on into winter.
The Russian military operation in Ukraine will end and Ukraine will rise again, he further said.
Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition of Senegal Alioune Ndoye extended thanks to the government and people of Egypt for the outstanding organisation of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference, COP27.
