The Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh el-Hefny, received on Wednesday the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Cairo, Askar Genis, to discuss ways of strengthening co-operation in civil aviation, enhancing air connectivity and supporting tourism between the two countries.

The meeting focused on the possibility of resuming the direct Cairo-Almaty air route, alongside measures to revitalise air traffic between Egypt and Kazakhstan in response to growing travel demand.

The two sides also explored opportunities to expand bilateral co-operation in civil aviation in support of economic, tourism and trade relations, the ministry said in a statement.

It added that Minister el-Hefny underscored, during the meeting, the importance of the Kazakh market to Egypt’s aviation and tourism sectors, describing it as a promising market offering significant opportunities for growth.

He highlighted the increasing travel movement between Egypt and Central Asian countries and stressed the importance of capitalising on this potential by strengthening air connectivity between Egypt and Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh ambassador expressed his appreciation for the distinguished relations between Egypt and Kazakhstan and reaffirmed his country’s keenness to deepen co-operation with Egypt in civil aviation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

He also stressed the importance of restoring direct flights between Cairo and Almaty, calling for continued coordination and consultations with the Egyptian side on the necessary procedures and arrangements.

He noted that the resumption of the route would help boost tourism and further strengthen the close ties between the two countries.
