Health min. holds meeting to probe final preparations for PHDC’23 1 - Egyptian Gazette

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting Sunday with the heads of health departments in the various Egyptian governorates and co-organizers of the Global Congress on Population, Health and Development (PHDC’23) to discuss the latest developments regarding preparations for the event slated for Sept. 5 in the New Administrative Capital.

The four-day gathering will be held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

According to the minister of health and Population some 8,000 people from Egypt and from around the world registered on the website of the PHDC’23 to participate in the the Congress.

The conference will witness the launch of Egypt’s National Strategy on Population, Abdel Ghaffar said.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the minister followed up on the final preparations made by the conference’s executive committee, along with its eight sub-committees.

The spokesman underscored the political leadership’s keenness on further promoting the health sector in Egypt, stressing the ministry of population’s efforts to achieve massive strides in this regard.

The gathering’s agenda, including organization of dialogue sessions and discussion panels also figured high during the meeting, said the spokesman.

As many as 65 discussion panels, with participation of 270 Egyptian and foreign speakers will be held within the event, in addition to active participation on the part of the Egyptian scientific fellowship program through a number of workshops and meetings, he added.

The minister of population is following up around the clock ongoing preparations for receiving participating delegations, noted the spokesman.

The event presents a unique opportunity for researchers and policy makers worldwide to get first-hand information on the dynamic relationship between population, health and development.

The conference will witness the participation of decision-makers, ministers of health and population from different countries, ambassadors of countries, international partner agencies, UN and USAID, banking entities, entrepreneurs, the media and representatives of civil society, intellectuals and sponsors of success partners.

Through the wide range of activities during the congress, panelists and participants will interactively address the challenges and forecasts, share experiences and best practices, and propose mitigation plans, adaptation strategies and roadmaps.

Egypt will also renew its international commitments towards population issues and efforts to achieve maximum benefits from the demographic dividend and its potential economic gains.
