President of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) Karam Gabr, has stressed that the council deals with the presidential election fairly without bias in favor of any presidential candidates.
Speaking to CBC TV channel, Gabr reiterated that all candidates have the same media coverage fairly, but President Abdel Fattah El Sisi appears in the media more than other candidates since he is the incumbent president who manages critical issues and crises.
The council conducted several studies on the international standards of media coverage for the election, such as the principles of the United Nations, the European Union and other global organizations, Gabr said, noting that such standards are enforced in Egypt.
The council cooperates with Egypt’s National Elections Authority (NEA) to organize the current presidential election perfectly, Gabr added.
Egyptian expats on Saturday continue their voting at the premises of Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad in the second day of the presidential election.
Egypt’s embassies and consulates are open to receive eligible voters, making all logistical and technical preparations to ease the voting process for Egyptian electors desiring to exercise their constitutional right within a free and fair democratic political process.
According to the NEA, voting for Egyptians abroad start on December 1-3, 2023, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm according to the local time in every country.
The voting process will take place in 137 Egyptian embassies and consulates in 121 countries across the world.
Candidates running for the presidency include incumbent President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, represented by a star symbol; as well as Farid Zahran, the Social Democratic Party candidate, with the electoral symbol of a sun.
This is in addition to Abdel Sanad Yamama, the candidate chosen by Egypt’s oldest liberal party, Al-Wafd, who is represented by the symbol of a palm tree; and Hazem Omar, the Republican People’s Party candidate, with a ladder symbol.
All Egyptians, whose names are registered in the electoral roll and carry a valid passport or national ID card, are entitled to vote.
