CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held Tuesday political consultations with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to strengthen bilateral relations, exchange views on regional and international developments and launch a minister-level political consultation mechanism between the two countries.

The foreign minister praised growth in Egypt-Germany relations in recent years and said the new consultation framework reflects a shared desire to elevate ties to a strategic partnership.

The two ministers also discussed holding a joint economic committee and business forum to promote private sector cooperation.

The talks covered joint development projects, including renewable energy, investment climate improvement and vocational training initiatives.

Abdelatty said Egypt is an attractive destination for German investment, with 1,600 German companies currently operating in the country.

Regional and international issues were also discussed. On Gaza, Abdelatti briefed Wadephul on Egypt’s efforts to maintain a ceasefire, deliver humanitarian aid and support reconstruction.

He reiterated Egypt’s stand that a political settlement based on international legitimacy, Palestinian statehood along the 1967 borders and Al-Quds (Occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital key to regional stability.

The ministers also exchanged views on Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Iran’s nuclear program, stressing the importance of territorial integrity, diplomatic solutions and international cooperation to reduce regional tensions.
