Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a phone call on Saturday with Hussein Al Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine, as part of ongoing consultations and coordination regarding the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.

Talks during the phone call focused on efforts to implement the first phase of President Donald Trump’s peace plan, including ensuring full and sustainable access for humanitarian assistance into the Gaza Strip, deploying an international stabilisation force to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and secure the delivery of humanitarian aid, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf said.

He also stressed the necessity of enabling the national committee tasked with administering Gaza to begin carrying out its responsibilities from within the Strip until the Palestinian Authority resumes its full responsibilities.

The discussions also covered the serious developments in the West Bank, where Abdel-Aati condemned the escalation of settlement activities and the continued Israeli violations in East Jerusalem and the Al Aqsa Mosque. He warned of the repercussions of these actions on prospects for achieving peace and stability in the region.

During the call, the Egyptian top diplomat reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to establish an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also stressed the importance of empowering the Palestinian Authority to carry out its responsibilities and preserving the unity of the Palestinian territories in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, describing this as the foundation for achieving a just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue.

For his part, Al Sheikh expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and its continuous efforts to halt escalation, achieve calm, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people. He also stressed the importance of maintaining coordination and consultations during the coming period.
