Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel- Aati held a phone call on Tuesday with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, in which the two sides discussed the latest developments in Lebanon.
The call tackled also the ongoing negotiations between Lebanon and Israel currently taking place in Rome, with Minister Abdel-Aati reaffirming Egypt’s full solidarity with Lebanon in confronting the current delicate challenges, stressing Egypt’s position calling for Israel’s complete withdrawal from all Lebanese territory.
He added that any infringement on Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity ‘constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Egyptian top diplomat underscored the importance of supporting Lebanese state institutions, particularly the Lebanese Army, to enable them to assume their responsibilities in extending the state’s authority and sovereignty over the entire national territory.
Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of placing weapons under state control, supporting the Lebanese state’s authority and safeguarding the resources and interests of the Lebanese people.
Minister Abdel-Aati affirmed also that Egypt would continue supporting Lebanon and its national institutions, based on the brotherly relations and close ties between the two countries and in a manner that contributes to strengthening Lebanon’s security and stability.
For his part, the Lebanese prime minister expressed his appreciation for the support Egypt provides to Lebanon, commending Cairo’s steadfast positions in support of the Lebanese state and its institutions.
He also affirmed Lebanon’s keenness to continue co-ordination and consultations with Egypt on various issues of mutual concern.
