Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel:Aati met Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al‑Thani, on Thursday in Alamein ahead of the seventh session of the Egypt–Qatar Joint High Committee.
Both sides praised the progress in bilateral relations under the guidance of their leaderships, noting the increase in high‑level visits and consultations.
They agreed on the importance of holding the joint committee annually, building on the outcomes of its seventh session.
Minister Abdel-Aati noted that there has been a remarkable 80% increase in trade in 2025 and welcomed major investment projects, including “Alam El‑Roum” deal and Qatar’s launch of the first phase of its development project earlier this month.
He also pointed to the start of a sustainable jet fuel project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone with direct Qatari investment.
On consular co-operation, Minister Abdel-Aati praised Qatar’s care for the Egyptian community and called for convening the joint labour committee soon, with Egypt ready to supply skilled workers through its electronic system.
The talks also covered regional developments, with both sidesstressing the need for political and diplomatic solutions, a return to the US–Iran memorandum of understanding, and resumption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
They exchanged views on the Palestinian issue, warning against Israeli settlement expansion and unilateral measures in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
They also reaffirmed that they maintain coordination with the US and regional partners to ensure implementation of the Gaza peace plan.
On Lebanon, both sides underscored the need for continued Egypt–Qatar coordination to support Lebanon’s stability and institutions, including the Lebanese army.
They also discussed Sudan, and voiced concern over the humanitarian crisis and reiterated support for its unity and sovereignty.
In the Horn of Africa, they emphasised respect for territorial integrity and cautioned against unilateral moves threatening regional peace.
Abdel-Aati highlighted Egypt’s participation in the Kampala summit on the AUSSOM mission in Somalia, stressing the importance of sustained funding.
