Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aat took part in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi on Thursday.

The meeting aims at strengthening coordination among member states on regional and international issues of common concern.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf saidthat Minister Abdel-Aati emphasised Egypt’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation within BRICS, supporting the role of the New Development Bank, and advancing joint projects in energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, and advanced technology. He highlighted Egypt’s initiatives, including the proposal to establish a grain logistics hub in East Port Said to bolster food security and enhance industrial, trade, and investment collaboration among the BRICS member states.

The minister also addressed priority issues on the multilateral agenda, particularly reforming the global economic system and the UN Security Council. He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the “Ezulwini Consensus” and the “Sirte Declaration” as the unified African position to rectify the historical injustice of Africa’s underrepresentation in the Security Council.

Minister Abdel-Aati highlighted the complex challenges facing the international system and global economy, noting that developing countries bear the brunt of these crises. He reviewed the developments in the Middle East, warning of escalating tensions that threaten regional and global stability, maritime security, supply chains, and energy and food prices. He stressed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tension, safeguard Gulf states’ security, and reject any attacks undermining their sovereignty, while reiterating that diplomatic solutions remain the only path to lasting stability.

On the Palestinian issue, the minister condemned the Israeli practices in the occupied territories and called for unfettered access of humanitarian, medical, and relief aid to Gaza. He emphasised the need to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction, and ultimatelyachieve a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian question.
