Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Monday emphasized the sustainability of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and means to implement its three phases successfully.

Foreign ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty’s statements came during a phone call he made with EU foreign policy chief Kaya Callas, pointing out that the two sides underlined the importance of keeping the Palestinian people on their lands and respecting their right to self-determination.

Abdelatty hailed distinguished relations between Egypt and the European Union and the keenness on implementing axes of strategic partnership.

He expressed hope for the continuation of the EU support for the partnership with Egypt in a way serving the interests of the two sides and disbursing the second tranche of financial package estimated at 4 billion euros.

The foreign minister reviewed Egypt’s efforts to achieve peace and security in the region in light of the tremendous geopolitical challenges.

Abdelatty posted the EU envoy on developments related to the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and stressed the importance of increasing the amounts of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory to meet the needs of its people.

The foreign minister called on the European envoy to continue European humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip and cooperate on reconstruction programs to keep the Gazans on their lands.

He praised the EU role in the Middle East, describing the European Union as the biggest donor to the Palestinian National Authority.
