GENEVA – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reiterated Thursday the importance of the Arab role in solving the Syrian crisis.
His remarks came at a meeting with UN Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen in Geneva, Switzerland.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said the meeting aimed to maintain dialogue between Egypt and the UN regarding ways of solving the Syrian crisis gradually in accordance with a “step for step” approach, the outcome of meetings in Jeddah and Amman, the latest Arab summit and as per UN Security Council resolution no 2254.
Shoukry pointed out that Egypt pays great attention to maintaining coordination between the Arab Ministerial Committee for Syria and the UN in order to ensure coordinating all efforts in this regard.
In turn, Pedersen said he is keen on working with the Arab Ministerial Committee to push forward the gradual solution to the Syrian crisis.
He added he is appreciating constant communication between Egypt and the UN with the objective of solving the crisis in Syria.
