CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty asserted Egypt’s keenness on achieving stability in Sudan in a way that enables the Sudanese people to build their nation and fulfil aspirations.

This came during his participation in a quartet meeting on Sudan, with the participation of the US State Secretary, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, and the UAE State Minister for International Co-operation, on the sidelines of the foreign ministers of the G7.

In statements on Tuesday, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamin Khallaf said that Abdelatty stressed the necessity of preserving the Sudanese State’s institutions and respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Abdelatty also underlined the necessity of the donor countries’ commitment to implement their pledges related to the Sudan Humanitarian Needs and Response.

He stressed that it is not fair to leave neighboring countries to bear the brunt of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, stressing the importance of focusing on two main goals; reaching a ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid.

He expressed his deep concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan that led to the internal displacement of more than 11 million Sudanese, and the asylum of more than 3 million Sudanese to neighboring countries, including Egypt that received large numbers of Sudanese people.

Abdelatty also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to deal with the crisis in Sudan on the political and humanitarian levels, noting that the facilities that Egypt provides to UN agencies and relief organizations to ensure the prompt delivery of humanitarian aid to brothers in Sudan.

The minister underlined that Egypt hosted the Sudanese political and civil forces conference in July 2024 with the view to helping reach a Sudanese consensus without excluding any parties.

He also also underlined Egypt’s efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Sudan.
