Egypt’s Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk has said translating economic reforms into tangible investment is essential to achieving more sustainable growth, describing public-private partnerships as the “natural evolution” of infrastructure investment, particularly in renewable energy.
Speaking at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) meetings in Doha during a session titled “Financing for Impact,” Kouchouk said Egypt is pursuing economic reforms alongside social protection measures and support for vulnerable groups.
The government is also encouraging investment in clean-energy projects to strengthen the competitiveness of Egyptian exports, he added.
Kouchouk said upgrades to roads, ports and logistics services, together with customs reforms, are helping position Egypt as a regional trade hub. He cited Panda Bonds as a successful example of innovative financing and highlighted the role of development-bank guarantees in attracting investors.
Egypt is seeking more diverse financing tools and guarantee mechanisms to encourage private investment in development projects, the minister said. He also called for multilateral development banks to play a greater role in turning reform programmes and development plans into investable projects.
