Egypt’s Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, the head of the Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) – asserted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi allocated a new budget to expand the comprehensive heath insurance mechanism to the governorates.
He noted that this is among the top presidential priorities of public spending in the new fiscal year.
He added that upping the health sector’s budget will alleviate burdens on people.
He said the state is building more sustainable financial potentials to ensure comprehensive health coverage, noting that about EGP 115 billion was secured in reserves for this goal and this number is expected to up to EGP 125 billion by the end of June.
He voiced hope that the private sector’s contribution to the comprehensive health mechanism would rise from 30 percent to 50 percent.
He voiced appreciation to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for supporting the Egyptian experience in promoting the comprehensive health coverage in Egypt.
