CAIRO – Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker said the expansion in reliance on renewable energy contributes to boosting the share of the clean energy in power generation and preserving the environment.
He added that the move is meant to rationalize the consumption of natural gas, in light of its great economic impact.
This came at a meeting with US Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg and her accompanying delegation to discuss means of boosting cooperation and investments between Egypt and the US.
The two sides tackled cooperation in the domains of electricity, new energy as well as the renewables like the solar power, wind energy and green hydrogen, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
They discussed prospects of localizing the renewable energy industry alongside the manufacture of relevant components, in a way that contributes to transferring the know-how and creating more job opportunities, the statement added.
The minister reviewed progress achieved in solar and wind energy projects carried out nationwide, in line with the state’s strategy to increase reliance on clean energy in its mix of energy to reach 42 percent by the year 2030.
Meanwhile, the US ambassador hailed the distinguished Egyptian-US relations and asserted the necessity of further boosting them.
She lauded the remarkable development realized by Egypt’s electricity and renewable energy sector as well as the competent cadres in this domain.
