Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met with Orascom Construction CEO Osama Bishai to review progress on the 900MW Ras Shukeir wind power project in the Gulf of Suez region.
The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital, focused on ensuring adherence to the project’s implementation timeline and preparations for connecting the project to the national grid.
Esmat reviewed Orascom’s operational renewable energy projects, with a total capacity of 912.5MW, and discussed their production levels.
The Ras Shukeir project is being implemented in two phases: the first, with a capacity of 300MW, is scheduled to be connected to the grid in December 2027, while the second, with a capacity of 600MW, is due to be completed by June 2028.
The discussions also covered work on transmission lines and measures to overcome challenges that may arise during implementation.
The minister stressed the need for continuous monitoring of renewable energy projects under the national energy strategy, highlighting the importance of meeting deadlines and supporting grid stability.
He noted Egypt’s target of increasing the share of clean energy to 45 per cent by 2028, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and expanding energy storage systems.
Esmat praised co-operation with Orascom, describing the company as a key private-sector partner in accelerating implementation and shortening project timelines.
