Head of Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA) Ahmed el-Sobky, and Australia’s Ambassador to Egypt Axel Wabenhorst, discussed on Sunday means of enhancing bilateral co-operation in various healthcare fields, with focus on exchange of expertise, and benefiting from international best practices.

The meeting probed a twinning programme linking Sydney Children’s Hospital and Ramsey Health Care Medical Group in Australia with El-Nasr Specialised Children’s Hospital in Egypt’s Port Said, and specialised pediatric departments within the authority’s facilities, el-Sobky said.

The initiative aims to improve pediatric medical services and enhance subspecialties through joint training and the application of the latest global practices.

In addition, he highlighted the EHA’s sustainability and green transformation strategy, noting that the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital and Port Said Specialised Ophthalmology Hospital had received international recognition from the Global Green Hospital Network (GGHH).

He also emphasised the Authority’s commitment to environmental sustainability in healthcare.

ElSobky voiced the authority’s interest in increased collaboration with Australia on health sustainability through expertise transfer to support its green transformation strategy, aligning with Egypt’s sustainable development goals and global trends in eco-friendly health systems.

The discussions also touched on co-operation in medical tourism, the exchange of expertise on clinical quality indicators, medical missions to Australia for learning about global practices, and advanced training programmes for healthcare providers to enhance the efficiency of medical teams.

ElSobkyinvited the Australian envoy to visit the Suez Medical Complex, showcasing the progress in healthcare in the Canal Governorates.

For his part, Ambasador Wabenhorst lauded Egypt’s significant progress in healthcare and voiced hopes for greater co-operation across various healthcare areas.

He also acknowledged Egypt’s “unprecedented qualitative leap” in its healthcare sector and commended the implementation of the comprehensive health coverage system.
