The cost of state-funded medical treatment exceeded LE25 billion during the first eight months of 2026, the Ministry of Health and Population said in a statement on Saturday.

The expenditure is part of the government’s efforts to ease the financial burden on patients and ensure access to comprehensive healthcare services.

The Ministry of Health and Population said the budget allocated for treatment at the state’s expense reached LE25.235 billion from January 1 through the end of August 2026.

Around 2,628,702 patients have benefited from the services during the period, with 2,956,125 treatment decisions issued on their behalf under the state-funded treatment programme, according to the Health Ministry Spokesman, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

Mohamed Akkad, Director-General of the Medical Councils Department, said social support and logistical empowerment programmes had also recorded significant activity.

Medical committees examined 18,929 applicants seeking specially equipped cars exempt from taxes and customs duties. The system also assessed 212,567 applicants eligible for the Takaful and Karama pension programme to ensure accurate health evaluations and direct social protection to the targeted groups.

Akkad highlighted the progress made under the ministry’s digital transformation plan and the use of modern technological solutions to reduce the burden of travel on citizens. The system conducted a total of 52,103 remote medical consultations, marking a significant increase in access to specialised medical assessments.

The Ministry of Health and Population reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the development of the national healthcare system, both medically and administratively, while further digitising treatment procedures.

The ministry said the efforts aim to ensure the sustainability of healthcare services and provide integrated care to all citizens with dignity and fairness, while meeting society’s needs and improving the quality of life.
