The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has ranked seventh among the world’s top 10 free zones for 2026, according to a ranking published by FDI Intelligence in October, the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) said on Monday.
In an infographic published on Monday, the centre noted that SCZone topped the African free zones featured in the ranking.
The ranking was based on submissions from 79 free zones worldwide. The participating zones were assessed against several criteria, including growth in occupied areas and increases in the numbers of employees and tenant companies in 2024 and 2025, as well as evaluations by the judging panel.
Other assessment criteria included infrastructure efficiency, sustainability standards, investment incentives, governance and new investments, reflecting the importance of these factors in enhancing the competitiveness of free zones and their ability to attract investment.
The ranking underscores SCZone’s standing in the global market and its role in supporting Egypt’s efforts to attract investment, stimulate economic activity and capitalise on its strategic location along major global trade routes.
