EL ALAMEIN, Egypt – Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that government employees will work online every Sunday during August as part of the state plans to rationalize energy consumption.
The government has directed all parties to rationalize lighting in public buildings and the streets, Madbouli told a press conference following a Cabinet meeting held here today.
On weekends, consumption decreases and therefore it was agreed on having civil servants in back offices work from home starting August 6, he said, calling on private companies to encourage this move to reduce electricity loads.
The state has no choice but to rationalize the energy consumption and has taken a set of measures in this regard, including importing additional quantities of diesel at a cost between 250 and 300 million US dollars enough till the end of August, he said.
All government agencies will be directed to further rationalize the consumption and develop a plan for the public administration.
The Prime Minister directed the minister of youth and sports to hold all matches at sports facilities and stadiums before sunset to reduce the energy loads and urged the public and all facilities in the country to set their air conditions at 25 degrees Celsius to reduce consumption.
Measures to reduce the energy loads will be effective until the temperature drops to 35 degrees Celsius, he made it clear.
