Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly called for redirecting the capabilities of the international financial system to achieve greater fairness and better reflect the interests and needs of Global South countries.
Madbouly made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing the Leaders’ Meeting on “Partnership for Multilateral Action, Security and Peace” in New York. The session was held as part of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He said countries share common goals of promoting peace and stability, supporting sustainable development and strengthening multilateralism and the principles of the UN Charter. However, achieving these goals has become increasingly difficult amid a growing number of conflicts worldwide.
Madbouly stressed that joint efforts should prioritise preventing and resolving conflicts.
He said some parties have long responded to potential conflicts through unilateral measures, overlooking the benefits of diplomacy.
He noted that the root causes of many conflicts remain unaddressed, including poverty, inequality and underdevelopment. These challenges also hinder efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and threaten international stability.
The prime minister stressed that the multilateral international system must remain at the core of these efforts, highlighting the UN’s unique role in providing vital support to achieve shared goals, provided it is adequately empowered to fulfill its mandate.
He called for seizing every opportunity to give renewed momentum to multilateralism by providing the necessary resources, demonstrating political will and uniting around common goals.
Madbouly reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to multilateralism and international co-operation. Egypt is ready to work with all partners to ensure that multilateralism becomes an effective tool for achieving peace, prosperity and dignity for all, he said.
