Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population said its mobile medical convoys provided more than 8.4 million free healthcare services to 3.4 million people during fiscal year (FY) 2025/26, as part of efforts to expand access to healthcare across the country.
The services were delivered through 4,790 mobile medical convoys that operated in all governorates between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026.
The convoys carried out around 1.169 million laboratory tests and diagnostic examinations, serving an average of 715 beneficiaries per convoy each day, Health Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.
Peter Wagih, Assistant Minister for Therapeutic Medicine, said the programme prioritised border and underserved governorates. Matrouh recorded the highest number of convoys, with 549, followed by Alexandria with 289 and Beheira with 228. Sharqia ranked first in healthcare services delivered, providing 674,000 services to more than 311,000 beneficiaries, ahead of Assiut, Aswan, Monufia and Minya.
“The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the medical convoy programme and strengthening primary and specialised healthcare services across all governorates, in line with Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar’s directives to provide high-quality healthcare free of charge to all citizens,” Spokesman Abdel Ghaffar said.
