Sisi Calls for United Front in Farming Push

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi underscored the critical need for robust cooperation between state institutions and the private sector to accelerate Egypt’s agricultural development.

His remarks came during the 2025 wheat harvest season event in El-Dabaa on Wednesday, where he outlined ambitious plans to significantly expand the nation’s arable land.

President Sisi announced a target of adding 800,000 feddans to Egypt’s agricultural land by September, a monumental undertaking that necessitates seamless coordination across various ministries and state entities. He highlighted that the essential infrastructure for this expansion is slated for completion by next June, with crucial participation from the private sector to ensure the land is ready for immediate cultivation.

“Agricultural infrastructure demands the combined efforts of the Ministries of Agriculture, Irrigation, Electricity, and Transport, alongside securing the necessary funding for implementation,” President Sisi stated. He further detailed the substantial investment required, noting that preparing the infrastructure to render land suitable for farming costs between EGP 200,000 and EGP 300,000 per feddan.

The President emphasized the state’s significant efforts in providing this foundational infrastructure. He cited the preparation of 500,000 feddans in Sinai for cultivation as an example, requiring the integrated efforts of the Governor of North Sinai in collaboration with the Governors of Port Said and Ismailia, as well as the Ministries of Electricity, Irrigation, and Agriculture. This collaborative approach ensures the holistic integration of state institutions in bringing this vast area into Egypt’s agricultural fold. He also pointed to the advancements in roads, tunnels, and railways as vital supporting elements for this agricultural thrust.
