Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan, Pekka Haavisto, discussed on Monday the latest developments in the Sudan crisis, as well as regional and international efforts to de-escalate the conflict and support paths toward calm.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions.
He also stressed the importance of respecting Sudanese ownership of the political process.
The top diplomat underlined the need to support stability and end the conflict to help reach a comprehensive political settlement that preserves Sudan’s sovereignty and meets the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security, stability and development.
The two sides emphasised the importance of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions and reaching a comprehensive political settlement. They also called for ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid and easing the suffering of the Sudanese people.
Haavisto praised Egypt’s role in supporting Sudan’s security and stability, as well as its regional and international efforts to help end the crisis.
He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to continued coordination and consultation with Egypt to contribute to ending the conflict.
