Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati has reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to consolidating strategic partnership with the UK across political, economic, trade and investment fields.

He also stressed the importance of expanding British investments in Egypt and enhancing bilateral economic co-operation to serve the interests of both countries.

Abdel-Aati had a telephone call with the UK’s National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, on Monday, during which the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on a number of regional developments.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of encouraging British companies to increase their investments in the Egyptian market and explore new opportunities for co-operation across various sectors.

He also underlined the need to facilitate Egyptian exports to the British market within the framework of the Egypt-United Kingdom Partnership Agreement, thereby contributing to increasing trade volumes and maximising the benefits offered by the agreement.

The two sides welcomed the significant progress achieved in Egyptian-British relations in recent years and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining momentum in bilateral co-operation across various fields.

On regional developments, Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of continuing United States-Iran negotiations in good faith and with the utmost seriousness in order to reach a comprehensive agreement that addresses the interests and concerns of all parties and contributes to strengthening regional and international security and stability.

He reiterated that diplomatic solutions remain the most effective means of resolving outstanding disputes. The call also addressed the latest developments in Lebanon, with Minister Abdel-Aati reaffirming Egypt’s steadfast support for the Lebanese state and stressing the importance of respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

He underscored the need to build upon the framework agreement reached under United States auspices to achieve a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and extend the authority of the Lebanese state over all its lands.

Abdel-Aati further emphasised the importance of refocusing international efforts on the Palestinian issue and creating the conditions necessary for the full implementation of the first phase of the United States President’s peace plan and the transition to the second phase.
