Egypt’s Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, inspected on Friday the progress on the development and construction of the 500-kilometre El-Ferdan–East Port Said–Bir El-Abd–Arish–Taba railway line, a key component of the integrated Arish–Taba international logistics corridor.
The project is designed to strengthen Sinai’s integration with the national railway network, support passenger and freight transport, and promote industrial, commercial, mining, and tourism development.
El-Wazir reviewed work progress on the 83-kilometre Bir El-Abd–Arish section, including earthworks and seven stations, as well as a 12-kilometre railway link to Arish Port.
He directed contractors to work around the clock while maintaining high quality standards and adhering to the project’s timetable. He also reviewed plans for the remaining sections linking Arish with Hassana and Taba.
The minister said the project would facilitate freight movement and exports through Arish and Taba ports, while serving communities across North, Central and South Sinai.
