Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid met on Thursday with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for the Middle East and Africa, Mark Mitchell, and a delegation from the US Embassy in Cairo to strengthen economic and investment co-operation and explore opportunities to expand US investment in Egypt. The embassy delegation was headed by Commercial Counselor Paul Oliva.

As the meeting started, Minister Farid reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to removing obstacles facing US investors, improving the investment climate, streamlining procedures and converting available opportunities into viable projects.

He also highlighted Egypt’s strategic location, qualified human resources and access to regional markets as key competitive advantages that enhance its attractiveness to American investors and support greater private-sector participation in economic development.

The discussions examined opportunities to attract US mining companies specialising in extraction and processing, capitalising on Egypt’s mineral resources and existing infrastructure while increasing local value added.

The two sides also discussed appropriate mechanisms for addressing trade-related developments and challenges.

The meeting further reviewed the future of bilateral economic relations, trade developments and investment opportunities, particularly in mining and artificial intelligence.

Both sides agreed to maintain dialogue and coordination to strengthen investment and trade relations, address challenges, and enhance communication between relevant authorities and business communities.

They also agreed to hold further technical meetings to advance the issues discussed and translate investment opportunities into concrete projects.
