Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty on Sunday stressed the urgent need to intensify diplomatic efforts and prioritise political and diplomatic solutions to contain the current escalation in the region, prevent the conflict from widening, and safeguard regional and international security and stability.
Abdelatty made the remarks during his meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.
During the engagements, the Egyptian foreign minister emphasised the importance of concerted diplomatic action to de-escalate tensions and prevent further expansion of the conflict.
He also underscored the need to ensure the security and safety of international navigation and maintain the uninterrupted flow of trade and supply chains, given their direct impact on regional and international stability.
Abdelatty exchanged views with his Russian counterpart on the latest regional developments and discussed ways of strengthening diplomatic efforts aimed at containing tensions and promoting peaceful solutions to the crises confronting the region.
In his separate meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi, Abdelatty reiterated the importance of exercising maximum restraint and pursuing de-escalation, particularly at this critical juncture.
He stressed the need to avoid any targeting of the brotherly Gulf states, warning that further escalation could undermine efforts to restore security and stability across the region.
The discussions also addressed the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement and coordinated international efforts to prevent further deterioration of the regional situation and create conditions conducive to restoring peace and stability.
