The Cabinet’s Media Centre on Thursday published a series of infographics, which highlighted the remarkable rise in remittances by Egyptians abroad, which reached a record $47.3 billion during the 2025/2026 fiscal year.
The figure exceeded international forecasts, with the IMF projecting $39.3 billion and Morgan Stanley estimating $46 billion.
Remittances climbed steadily from $21.9 billion in 2023/2024 to $36.5 billion in 2024/2025, before surging to $47.3 billion in 2025/2026.
The rise helped bolster Egypt’s foreign reserves, which rose to $55.1 billion in June 2026 and further to $57.2 billion by August, compared with $48.7 billion in June 2025.
International institutions underscored the strength of these inflows.
The IMF noted in August 2026 that remittances, alongside tourism revenues and recovering Suez Canal receipts, helped ease current account pressures.
By the same token, Standard & Poor’s pointed in April 2026 to Egypt’s stronger external buffers during regional conflicts, while the International Organization for Migration ranked Egypt first among Arab and African economies and seventh globally in remittance receipts in 2024.
Morgan Stanley confirmed in August 2026 that remittances remained at historically high levels, providing resilience against external shocks.
