Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a telephone conversation on Monday with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos as part of regular consultations to strengthen bilateral ties and exchange views on regional developments.

The two ministers praised the depth of historic relations between Egypt and Cyprus, which were elevated to a strategic partnership last April during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Cyprus.

Minister Abdel-Aati expressed Egypt’s keenness to continue coordination at all levels, particularly with Cyprus holding the current presidency of the EU Council, and commended Cyprus’s support for Egypt within EU institutions. He emphasized the importance of advancing economic and trade cooperation, including the swift implementation of the memorandum of understanding on employing Egyptian workers in Cyprus, and highlighted opportunities for transferring Egyptian gas and energy to Europe, stressing the significance of linking Cypriot gas fields to Egypt’s infrastructure.

The ministers also exchanged views on regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions, including updates on the U.S.–Iran negotiation track. Abdel-Aati briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce escalation in coordination with regional partners, underscoring the need for intensified regional and international efforts to push forward diplomatic solutions and prevent further instability.

For his part, Foreign Minister Kombos expressed Cyprus’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to promote calm and reduce tensions in the region. Both ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation within the framework of their strategic partnership and to support all efforts aimed at de-escalation.
