Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Tarek Elwassimy lauded the quantum leap in Egyptian-Chinese ties over the past seven years, especially with the first visit by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Beijing in 2014.

Elwassimy made the remarks on Sunday during his participation in a virtual symposium organized by the Chinese Embassy in Cairo to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party.

In his speech, the assistant foreign minister shed light on major projects executed by China in Egypt, including the Central Business District in the New Administrative Capital, El-Alamein towers and the electric train.

He said that the comprehensive strategic partnership signed during President Sisi’s visit to China in 2014 contributed to removing obstacles and reinforcing bilateral coordination on combating coronavirus pandemic.

On that score, the Egyptian diplomat explained that Chinese company (Sinovac) signed a cooperation agreement with the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) to manufacture Sinovac vaccine in Egypt.

Elwassimy congratulated the Chinese government and people on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, which he described as a milestone in China’s efforts to uphold its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He paid tribute to the significant achievements made by the Chinese Communist Party over more than 40 years that helped China become the world’s second largest economy.
