Egyptian airports recorded positive growth in flight operations and passenger traffic from 1 June to August 2026, compared with the same period last year, reflecting growing demand for Egyptian destinations, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Thursday.

Sohag International Airport posted the strongest growth, with the number of flights rising to 2,053 from 574 and passenger numbers reaching 263,472, up from 77,021. The increase follows the airport’s reopening on 1 March after comprehensive development and efficiency upgrades.

Alamein International Airport also recorded growth, with flights increasing to 1,857 from 1,530 and passenger numbers rising to 120,345 from 98,175. The airport is playing an increasingly important role in supporting tourism and international events, including preparations for EIAS 2026.

At Hurghada International Airport, flights rose to 18,208 from 17,310, while passenger traffic reached 2,711,731, compared with 2,640,441 a year earlier. Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport handled 2,001,905 passengers, up from 1,989,249.

Cairo International Airport recorded 57,440 flights, compared with 56,699 during the corresponding period last year, while passenger numbers increased to 7,942,903 from 7,830,717.

Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny said the positive indicators reflected the ability of Egypt’s airports to meet growing travel demand.

“The positive indicators recorded by air traffic during the summer season reflect the ability of the Egyptian airport system to keep pace with the growing demand for travel to Egyptian destinations,” El-Hefny said.

He added that the ministry is continuing to upgrade airport infrastructure, expand air connectivity, and encourage airlines to open new markets, with the aim of boosting inbound tourism and strengthening Egypt’s position on the international aviation map.
